Areas of Importance when taking driving lessons in Coulsdon
On your lessons in the South London area, your instructor will know which areas to take you depending on your ability and lesson plan for that day. A Suitable area is required for each lesson plan to go to plan. For instants it’s no good doing your reversing lessons on a busy road, thus be unable to perform the exercise enough times to master it independently. Below are a small example of lesson plans and areas suitable in South London
Lesson Plan: Moving away and stopping
Your Apex instructor will drive you to a quiet spot in South London. Show you all the controls and their usages. Brief you on moving off and then you will be away and driving.
Lesson Plan: Junctions – Emerging and Entering
Mirror, Signal, Position, Speed and Look. To turn left you check the centre mirror and the left door mirror. You will signal with about 8 car lengths to go. Stay generally a metre away from the kerb if possible. Slow down to approx 15 mph and go down to 2nd gear. Slow down some more to 10mph and look around the junction for hazards and finally turn. South London is full of great places to try out these junctions.
Lesson Plan: Reversing exercises
Reversing exercises are an important part of the test. You will be taught how to turn the car around in the road, reverse park and reverse around corners. All safely, accurately and under control. In south London it’s important to have these skills.
Lesson Plan: Pedestrian Crossings
You will be asked to drive on the main roads around the south London area. Pedestrian crossings should be a safe place to cross at all times. Pedestrians have priority, even the dangerous ones. You will learn how to recognise them and approach them safely with due regard to all road users. Mirrors and Speed are important here.
Lesson Plan: Dual Carriageways and Lane Discipline
South London is ideal for this subject. With busy traffic all around you, you will have to make lane discipline decisions. You must be able to master the car at speed during the use of lane discipline.
Lesson Plan: Emergency Stops
Obviously to perform this exercise for the first time you need to go somewhere in south London without there being other road users. Your instructor will know all the best areas. This exercise needs to have quick reactions, but still maintain control of your vehicle.
There are many more places known to us for various exercises. There may well be occasions you need to be taken to another area for your test, for example Sutton. All our Instructors are just as familiar in any areas to give you the best places to go to

I live in the busiest part of South London. Where the roads are busy and scary. On passing my test with Apex, I then wanted to learn more. So I did an advanced course. Now my insurance is cheaper and my driving is safer. I might even take the instructor training course through Apex in 2 years from now. Thanks Glen.
I used to meet my instructor after work at the end of the tube line in Morden, even though I lived in Clapham. This was such a benefit cos I always had my lesson among the test routes of Morden test centre. I passed easy. I don’t think I would of if I had lessons from home.
I was teaching my son Peter to drive and getting nowhere. In fact we argued each time we went in the family car. So I rang Apex, who was recommended to me. Now Peter is happy and so am I. I sat in the back of his lesson once and could not believe how amazing he drove. Thanks for everything so far Apex.
